| I survived the first week of my new job and it's not as big an adjustment as I thought it would be, going from doing pretty much nothing to working 40 hours a week and having to travel a long distance, but maybe the man with the hammer will pay me a visit later on...
on another note, the driving lessons are still not going as they should. Still having problems with approaching junctions too fast so I don't have enough time to watch if other cars are coming from other directions. *pounds on head* Slower, goddamnit! | | comments: Leave a comment |

| I had a very good evenening yesterday.
But I guess for this to make any sense I have to start at the beginning. So here we go. My sister lives with us together with her african husband and her baby that she got two months ago. To celebrate this occasion my dad put a sign in our front yard, but instead of the usual stork, cute bunny or something of the sort, he made a giant, roaring lion's head with the baby's name under it. Figures that will get the attention of the neighbours.
So one day this black guy rings our doorbell. Says he was wondering about the sign, the baby's name in particular. Says it sounds very african, which it does of course, because the baby has an islamic first name and an african family name. We talk a little and I invite the guy in. My sister was downstairs so he gets to see cute baby Ismail. Being a blend of ebony and ivory the baby has a skin color like coffee with milk in it. Which is why I thought it was kind of weird that, at first, he thought I'm the father, me being as white as a bottle of milk. Anyway, the guy lives about a street away from us and wants to see the african father, because he wants to stay close to his roots and brothers got to stick together, that sort of thing.
Well yesterday he came around and we wound up getting tipsy drinking a bottle of his wine, a nice cote du rhone, in our back yard. I can be funny how you meet new people sometimes.

| Yay me! After about three and a half months of unemployment I got a job as a software programmer. I only get a contract for six months, but if they like me I can work there permanently. I start on monday and from there we'll see how it goes. But at least I will have some money again. Good thing too, because my funds were getting low.
